Employee Grievances

 




Introduction

 Within the organization different employees may differently address their grievances. They may complain their grievances writing and verbal way.

 There are two reactions.

·   Aggressive way

 · Complain regarding their problem 

Human resource manager  role is to establish grievances analysis procedure and ensure that it is working well or not. Then must take necessary actions to solve the problem and get back employee for the work .

  

What is employee grievances?

According to the (Bandaranayake, 2014);Concerns, grievances, or discount aspects of one’s job within the workforce with different are referred to as employee grievances. 

These complaints may deal with a variety of topics, such as ;

 Work circumstances: Workplace safety, health risks, insufficient facilities, or uncomfortable working circumstances are some of the issues that causes to  rise to grievances over work conditions. If workers believe their physical health is being jeopardized or if their working circumstances are subpar, they have the right to file a grievance.

Treatment by Supervisors or Colleagues:

Workers file complaints about the way in which they are handled by supervisors or fellow workers due to favoritism, unfair treatment, bullying, harassment, and discrimination based on age, gender, color, religion, or handicap. When workers believe they are receiving unfair or disrespectful treatment, they frequently file grievances under this category.

Pay and Benefits: Unfair pay practices, disparities in earnings, insufficient benefit packages, or differences in leave entitlements are the problems that  rise to complaints about pay and benefits. If workers feel that they are not receiving a fair wage for their work or that there are differences in the way benefits and pay are allocated within the company, they may get resentful. 

Workload and Job Obligations: When workers feel unfairly overworked, underutilized, or overburdened with tasks beyond their job description, they file a grievance about workload and job obligations. This involve worries about unreasonably high standards, working long hours, a lack of resources, or a poorly designed job. If workers feel their workload is excessive or that they are being asked to do duties outside of their area of expertise or function, they may file grievances.

Career Development and Chances: Unfair promotion practices, a lack of training or professional development chances, or restricted prospects for growth are examples of grievances regarding career development and opportunities. If workers believe their career progress not considered employee may file a case.

Organizational Policies and Procedures: Dissatisfaction with organizational policies, procedures, or decision-making processes also  causes to rise to grievances. It  involves complaints about methods of communication, openness in decision-making, compliance with corporate guidelines, or alleged disparities in the way guidelines are applied. If workers feel that company policies and processes are ambiguous, capricious, or unfairly implemented, they may file grievances.

Types of Grievances

According to the(F, 2023);

Disciplinary Grievances: Arise from disciplinary actions such as warnings, suspensions, or terminations perceived as unfair or unjust.

Harassment and Discrimination Grievances: Involve complaints of harassment, discrimination, or bullying based on factors like race, gender, age, religion, or disability.

Compensation and Benefits Grievances: Arise from disputes over wages, bonuses, benefits, or perceived inequities in compensation.

Interpersonal Conflict Grievances: Result from conflicts with coworkers, supervisors, or management, leading to tension and dissatisfaction.

Policy and Procedure Grievances: These occur when employees believe organizational policies or procedures are unfair, inconsistent, or improperly applied.

Conclusion

Grievance has to be properly addressed  using grievances handling procedure if not it lowers the motivation and performance of the employee and affects the work environment.
